FOREST SCHOOL
Forest School sessions have been running within school for the last few years led by our qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader. We currently have another member of staff in training to become a Forest School Leader, as well as some very able Forest School assistants.
The thinking behind Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences. By participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in an outdoor environment each child will have the opportunity to develop motivation, sound emotional and social skills. These contribute to supporting children to reach their personal potential.
Forest Schools has demonstrated success with children of all ages who participate on a regular basis and through play, who have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others.
Forest School sessions will take place in all weathers (except for high winds and torrential rain). Children use full sized tools, play, learn boundaries of behaviour; both physical and social, establish and grow in confidence, self-esteem and become self-motivated.
We have warm and waterproof clothes and footwear for these sessions. However, if your child is participating in Forest School, could you provide your child with old clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty that your child could wear for these sessions. It may be cold so, if you have layers that the children could wear too, that would be great, along with warm socks and a jumper. Also, if your child has a pair of wellington boots please could they bring these in as well, making sure everything is clearly labelled. If you do not have suitable clothes please let me know and I will make sure they have the right clothing from school.
