PE days - Swimming on Thursdays

Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed in the correct P.E kit on their P.E. day.

For swimming, children need a towel, swimming shorts or a full swimming costume along with a swimming hat.

Autumn Term

This half-term we are learning about powerful and influential monarchs in British history. We are learning all about Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. This links to our English book of Treason by Berlie Doherty.

Weekly Homework

Reading

Children are expected to read as often as possible. Each time your child brings their reading diary into school and it has been signed by an adult at home, they will receive reading points. The class with the most points will be announced in Friday assembly and will be rewarded with extra break time!

Remember – the more times you read, the more chances you will have!

Reading with your child is really important, even at this age. Help your child to build fluency when reading and comprehension by asking questions about vocabulary, predictions, summarising, inference and simple retrieval questions.

Spelling

Year 6 children have weekly spellings to learn which are sent home at the beginning of the half term. These words are given to your child for the stage that they are currently learning at. Your child also has a login for Spelling Shed so they can log in and complete activities and games at home to help practise their spellings at home. You will find this login inside their reading diaries. Spellings can be really tricky so the more they are learning them, the better they will become at writing. These are really important for reaching the Expected Standard of writing at the end of Year 6.

At the bottom of the page are your child's spellings for Autumn 1.

English and Maths

Children will be expected to complete a reading comprehension and a maths task weekly for homework. This will be given out on a Monday and is due in by the following Monday. If it is returned on time, the children will receive 3 dojos each.
