YouTube Speed Sounds lessons update

From 1st June:

All lessons will be available at 9.30 am.

Set 1, 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons will restart.
Set 2 and 3 Speed Sounds lessons will include new words for reading and spelling.

New daily films:

  • Read longer words: for children who can read Set 3 sounds and words confidently. 
  • Read Red Words 1: for children who are reading Red, Green, Purple, Pink and Orange Read Write Inc. Storybooks. Many children are able to read these in Reception.
  • Read Red Words 2: for children who are reading Yellow, Blue and Grey Read Write Inc. Storybooks. Many children are able to read these in Y1.
  • Read and Hold a Sentence 1: reading and writing practice for children reading Green, Purple, Pink and Orange Read Write Inc. Storybooks. (For children reading and writing with Set 1 sounds confidently and learning Set 2 sounds.)
  • Read and Hold a Sentence 2: reading and writing practice for children reading Yellow, Blue and Grey Read Write Inc. Storybooks. (For children reading and writing words with Set 2 sounds confidently and learning Set 3 sounds.)

Partners In Health is thrilled to announce that Oscar-winning filmmaker and actor Taika Waititi will lead a glittering line-up of global stars in a multi-week reading via YouTube of the Roald Dahl classic James and the Giant Peach, to benefit PIH’s global work and response to COVID-19.

In the 10-episode series, the Thor: Ragnorak director will lead viewers through the beloved children’s story with help from megastars, including: Meryl Streep, Ryan Reynolds, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cara Delevigne, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o.

The first two episodes are now available on the Roald Dahl YouTube channel. New episodes will be released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Coventry Schools' Library Service have created a special online reading club for every pupil in Coventry to be able to share their reading achievements. There will also be a series of mini challenges that will appear over the next few weeks for you to have a go at. There are also downloadable resources to support reading for pleasure at home and links to online reading reading resources. If you would like some help and advice from our specialist children's librarians on what book to read next then please send your enquiries to their Book Doctor at sls@coventry.gov.uk and the librarians will do their best to recommend some fantastic reads to try.  Click here.

Coventry Libraries announce Silly Squad Online Summer Reading Challenge 2020

 

This year Coventry Libraries are delighted to invite Coventry children to join the fantastic free online ‘Silly Squad’ Summer Reading Challenge at www.sillysquad.org.uk

 

It’s a great opportunity for children aged 4 – 11 to read some brilliant books over the summer.  We have lots of free riveting reads for children to access online.  To borrow ebooks go to www.coventry.gov.uk/ebooks.  To join the library online go to www.coventry.gov.uk/joinalibrary  You can find out more about how to take part in the Silly Squad Reading Challenge at www.coventry.gov.uk/src
