We run a weekly cooking club in our kitchen. This term the children from Year 5, are working together to research, plan and cook a different recipe each week. To link in with their topic of World War II, they have been thinking about cooking using rations. They have chosen and made apple crumble from windfall apples and cakes using rationed ingredients. They are also planning to cook using things from our vegetable patch and a recipe using Spam.
Every week we run a Parent and Child cooking club. Where parents will get the chance to cook alongside their child for 5 weeks. The club focuses on healthy eating, cooking on a budget and how to support children to try new foods in a relaxed and fun way. The family make a meal for four people for under £5.
We asked that children and adults what they thought about the Cooking Club. Here are some of the things they told us:
"I love cooking with my Mum"
"I have really enjoyed making things I wouldn't normally try"
"Me and my children are carrying on this at home, I trust them more to be able to get on and do things and I stand back a bit."
"It has been a fantastic club!"
