 Facts about the Sun

The Sun is 100 times bigger than the Earth.The Sun is also the centre of our Solar System. The Sun is about 4.6 billion years old and spins around once every 27.4 days. The Sun is the biggest star and also the brightest.

The layer of gas around the Sun is called chromo – sphere. Here are some more facts about the Sun.

 

At around 1,392,000 kilometres (865,000) wide, the Sun’s diameter is about 110 times wider than Earth’s.  The Sun is 15,000,000 miles away from Earth. The Sun is travelling at about 220 km per second and the Sun is almost a perfect sphere. The Sun accounts for 99.86% of the mass in the Solar System. Scientist’s studied that the energy created by the Sun’s core is nuclear fusion. Around 74% of the Sun’s mass is made up of hydrogen.  Here is a website with a couple more facts about the Sun.
